I’ve found the One… I’m totally ecstatic that after more than a year of searching, after everything I’ve gone through with that ex, and after that ex broke my heart, I can finally give my search a rest. (...more)

Blog EntryPlaytime weekendJun 16, '08 11:53 AM
for everyone

Sundays once or twice a month usually mean playtime for me and Mia with my cousins and their kids.

Tita Sarah: Seriously Mia, did you think your mom is gonna let you have that piece of chocolate?

Mia: (very confused now)

Mia: What? The chocolate has a thousand calories in it!?? Mom!!!

Me: I told you so!

Clarice: Well that’s how it is. Whatever tastes good is always, always unhealthy.

Mia: I see…

Tita Baby (background): Tingnan mo tong dalawang to, ke-bata-bata pa, diet na ang pinag-uusapan!

Clarice: Well, don’t forget what I told you about chocolates! They’re good for you while you’re a kid and you still have all your teeth!

Mia: I won’t! See you soon!

And that was my weekend. How was yours? :)

I couldn't be happier with what I got from retaking this very interesting visual DNA personality test. Mostly because it got me right. My personality would be the Wild Cat's, but don't worry, I don't bite. :)

Warning: Not for the politically sensitive.

  • Discard all my 2-inch hills and buy all the 3 to 4-inched stilletos in the designer market. Using kickback money, of course
  • Have my rather distracting mole surgically removed
  • Fire my fashion stylist for the boring suits and personally hire Tommy Hillfiger. That's hitting 2 birds with one stone. Fil-American ties are cemented.
  • Discard my standard government-issue plate number and go with "KICKASS" or "G-UNIT"

Being grateful is not just a state of mind. It’s a conscious effort, that no matter what, there is much to be hoped and thankful for. Thanks vannie, for reminding me. :)

I posted before about the things I am happy about, and basically they’re still things I’m thankful to God for.

kiss!

  1. mia’s walking exercises
  2. mia’s surprise kisses - yup, she’s growing up to be a really sweet girl
  3. mia’s fascinating discovery of the beach, sand, shells, and the water
  4. the beach, of course!

Blog EntryPersonal LegendApr 21, '08 10:54 AM
for everyone

I feel like donning a backpack, putting on hiking boots, and staring out at the horizon to start my quest again to find my personal legend. That would’ve been possible, except that the backpack has to be LV or something stylishly leather-ish, the hiking boots should have at least 3-inch heels, and the horizon roughly covers the Makati skyline. Blog EntryButterfly HavenApr 16, '08 10:08 AM
for everyone

I think I’ve developed a new kind of phobia — being scared that summer will soon be over and I have not made the most out of it. So being the proactive person that I am, I have taken advantage of free and/or long weekends to soak in as much sun and swim in as much water. And I think I’ve been imposing myself on Mia too.

Just about an hour and thirty minutes away from Manila, a butterfly haven is nestled in the heart of Pulilan, Bulacan in an unassuming old house. The place doubles as a wedding reception site, a resort, a tourist spot, and even movie/TV locations. (more...)

Blog EntryTo read or not to readMar 31, '08 9:50 AM
for everyone

One of my favorite websites (and stores) just got a new look.

new fully booked website

Now I know not everyone appreciates reading as much as I do, but just let me rave over something that I reeeally love, which is reading.

I attribute to my mom my love for books. If not for her, I would not have learned to read at an early age (at about 3 years old i think), I would not have played pretend games where I was a newspaper editor/writer/publisher and that I wrote countless fictional news stories (complete with illustrations) on Grade 1 pad paper.

If she hadn’t spent enough time teaching me when I was a kid, I would not have had the patience to learn good english and be a good writer (well at least my mom and dad thinks I am) and speaker.

If not for my love of reading, I wouldn’t have known that Pisa is in Italy, Kilimanjaro is a volcano not a food, that Desire can be a person, that you can make a dish out of rose petals, or that Terry Pratchet is actually a guy. Well of course a lot of the information I’ve amassed over the years is partly due to television, but cable TV and the Discovery Channel was not uso back then.

Knowledge is power, as they say. What saddens me is that many kids and young people these days have developed an abhorrence for anything literary. It’s as if words suddenly become little gremlins with pitchfork tails and gleaming fangs. Or if they do read anything at all, they only read those 20-bucks-apiece romance novels or the Sunday paper’s comic strips. (continue reading)

Blog EntryWas I Ms Popular?Mar 31, '08 9:25 AM
for everyone

While Thea was busy being one of the popular and pretty students in school, I think I was busy being Ms Popular and Rebellious. It was a relatively small school, but I can't deny that the students liked me. Haha. Please indulge me just this once. :)

THINK BACK TO 4th year high school… Let’s see how much you remember and how much you regret..

What section were you? The one and only. Sabi sayo eh, it's a small school.

Who were your seatmates? It changed every quarter but the most memorable one was David because he blatantly tells me to lower my folder (used supposedly to cover your paper when answering) so he can copy, during exams. and i did. and we never got caught. haha.

Still remember your English teacher? Yup, and i think she was actually one of the good ones who saw my batch's potential. Mrs. Garcia. She's now living in New Zealand.

What was your first class? Now why would I remember that, unless it was a class I liked? The possibility of me liking a subject is next to impossible.

neoprint! with HS friendsMade friends with the lower years? I was their friend. But I didn't really know most of them. haha ang mean! Eto nalang. I was actually inis at one of the lower year girls because she had to be my ex-boyfriend's partner in one of the plays, and I was so jealous. I didn't like her then because i thought she was maarte. Guess what, she's one of my best friends now. :)

How was your class schedule? Uh, the same as always?

Made any enemies? Yeah sure. It's normal to go through highschool with raging hormones. :) Oh, there was this one time my friends and I went to Wendy's after school and a couple of college power tripping girls (and a guy) were pointing at one of my friends rudely and laughing at her. No apparent reason really, maybe just because she was chubby. I'm telling you that got us all worked up. By the end of the bi*chfit I think the other group got a nosebleed. Hindi siguro nakaintindi ng english ko :) Wanna know what school they were from? ;)

Who was your favorite teacher? Ms Hazel Jagmis, our world history and Social Studies teacher. she was the coolest. I actually appreciated history and why men had to wear breeches and not briefs back then. It made them look more regal. Or something like that.

What sport did you play? Anything! I think i was sporty enough, but I wasn't really good at one thing. I did play volleyball, table tennis, darts, and basketball (sali-sali lang).

Were you a party animal? No. Because I wasn't allowed to go out much. Besides I was grounded half the time. hihi. Bad, bad girl.

Were you well known in your school? I think so. I won the SC elections (treasurer lang naman) by landslide.

SKIP CLASSES? Never. That was virtually impossible in our jail of a school, right ruthie?

Did you get suspended/expelled? Almost I think. Instead, I was not allowed to attend the Baccalaureate service (a turnover ceremony between juniors and seniors) and almost did not attend my graduation.

Can you sing the alma mater? What, we have an alma mater song?

What was your favorite subject? Please refer to question number 4. Thea, Math?? How could you? hehe.

Did you go to the dances? Yup. Boring. We had assigned partners.

Where did you go most often during breaks? The canteen (to sneak a chat with my ex), hang around the hallway (to sneak a glance at my ex), The bathroom (to exchange letters with my ex), and just the classroom. hehehe.

What did you do on the last day of school? This was graduation, I suppose. I rejoiced.

:)

Blog EntryMarch 1: wave bye-byeMar 9, '08 10:06 AM
for everyone

when is it time to say goodbye?

from me to you:

have a good year ahead. you've always been there and will always be a part of us. knowing you has proven to me that not all fairy tales have a happy ending. sometimes, the hero gets killed too. sometimes, we don't get what we want. oh well. but life's like that right?

but the best part of it is that the princess meets her prince, the enchanted frog gets his kiss, the evil witch is destroyed, and there are unicorns and butterflies and rainbows and cute animals in between. that's how it is. and it's so much nicer if you think of it that way.

so again, have a happy life. maybe with or without me.

Blog EntryYou make me feel like I can fly so highFeb 23, '08 1:34 AM
for everyone

“Julie Tearjerky on the ground
She’ll swallow anything that’s round
Pick it up next time around
Nothing stays the same
Nothing stays the same…”

It’s songs like this that I wish days were still perfect, the band had not disbanded, and I was back in my HS uniform and lounging at the school bench watching a basketball game. I was decidedly going to have a bad day today, no thanks to a person who manages to make me smile and pout at the same time, but I tuned in to Jam 88.3’s morning Slide (it’s a Friday segment where they play all alternative music from the 80s to the present) and realized it’s not worth it.

“Butterfly carnival
Butterfly carnival
Butterfly carnival
Butterfly carnival…”

So i’m gonna have a good day, no matter what. I’ll let it slide. No one’s gonna ruin my day. Not even you mr. jeepney driver, not even you mr. motorcycle, not even you.

“Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought
“Well isn’t this nice…”
And isn’t it ironic… don’t you think”

Sarah McLachlan is crooning on my headphones. I am now tuned in to 99.5 RT, another great radio station. You might think I’m jologs for not even having my own iPod to listen to. I don’t care, playlists bore me. :)

“You make me feel like I can fly
So high, elevation!”

:D

If i’m not gonna fly away, I’m just gonna have to drive then.

Like Nell, I like to drive when I’m sad, angry or just bored. That way I clear my head and I entertain myself with things I see on the road. Like Mango’s billboards of Penelope Cruz.

Take this survey with me and see what car will likely take me there.

By justice a king gives a country stability, but one who is greedy for bribes tears it down. - Proverbs 29:4

He wipes away the sweat from his forehead, trying to calm his nerves. He takes a deep, but quiet breath and closes his eyes momentarily. They cannot see him. The putrid stench of the gutter, the flickering lamp post, and the chilling air does nothing to slow down his heart beating ahrd in his chest. He opens his eyes again when he hears a flutter of wings overhead. Just bats. Calm down. He slides further down against the wall covered with grime, not minding that his expensive designer garb is now just a filthy rag. All the prestige just went down the drain.

After convincing himself that he has put enough distance between his pursuers, he composes himself and brushes off a cockroach that has somehow found his leather shoes comfortable. He is no longer disgusted at the grime and dirt that now clung to his skin. Nor was he repulsed at his sins of amassing ill-gotten wealth anyway. But somehow, at this point in his life, he is willing to confess to anything in exchange for a warm bed and clean clothes on his back. He had not signed up for this.

Blog Entrymore than just bibingka and puto bumbongDec 8, '07 4:23 AM
for everyone
forgive my being a scrooge the past few weeks because i haven't exactly welcomed the holidays with welcome arms. as i said in my previous post, it's probably just a phase.

more than just bibingka and puto bumbong

what i like most about christmas are the sights and smells that attach to memories of good times, family bonding, and get-togethers. red hot glowing embers in between clay pots are a common sight in our country as soon as november rolls around (and even earlier sometimes). but you just inhale so much more of the tradition as the much celebrated 25th day of the month comes nearer. because then, all sorts of round things are brought our for luck, the best pigs and chickens are sacrificed for the table, even the bad tasting (for me) queso de bola gets its once-a-year spotlight, and curfews are momentarily forgotten for children.

(this is why i like christmas)

in memory of a HS and college schoolmate, JR. a new father, a good friend to many, and an athlete. i am just re-posting a short i wrote a few years back, which may not entirely do justice to his life (because it’s not about him), but nevertheless this is for you as it was for those i remembered when i wrote this.

——

“swish, swish” said the tree branches.
“dub-dub” said the little heart.
“good bye” said I.
“tomorrow i will see you again.”

2 deaths in one week.

“kinda makes me think, you know,” she said to no one in particular. the night was young and the breeze was cold. nobody was waiting for her at home, so she continued to tread the grassy ground. Read more »
